Kari:
Our weekend was the best. The house was everything we expected and more. Walking in set the scene for the entire weekend. What a comfortable, homey feeling, the beautiful prints and decor, it was so much more than a rental. It felt like home. Your family's hospitality only enhanced the physical surroundings and I can't thank you enough. I'm so happy to have found this perfect hideaway...we will definitely find more reasons to visit.

Thanks!! Kim
(Below are a few pictures Kim e-mailed me from their girls' weekend...)

6/25/02
The Bulger Family Reunion... Ok. Here's the deal. The girls told me the story and I forgot. It had something to do with a book and some old ladies & being Queens & something about one of them still being in training. Hmm. I think it's simply an excuse to drag out that slinky red dress once a year and buff up the ole' tiara.  Very HOT ladies. ;) Maybe we'll call in the fire department later... ;) Remember -- it's not a family reunion until something catches fire. ;)  (By the way -- are those FISHNET stockings?!)

The whole clan. See -- some are perfectly "normal". Just like YOUR family. ;) Peg is going to leave me a note on the red dresses and the story behind it. I'll post it when I get it. They are loving the home and told me that "it's everything that it's promised to be on the website!"  I love that. I would so much rather underplay how great the home is that exaggerate & have people disappointed when they get here.

Ok -- here's an e-mail I got today from one of the "Queens"...  :)  7/9/02

"Hi Kari: -- I am mailing the basketball today so hopefully you'll get it early next week.

Here is the history behind the Queens. I am married to the eldest Bulger child, Tom. We spent 11 months traveling around the U.S. a couple of years ago and I found a wonderfully funny book in Jackson Mississippi...The Sweet Potato Queens Book of Love by Jill Connor Browne.

Southern women aspire to queendom and she decided (20 years ago) to crown herself. (Being in her forties allowed her to have the freedom to do this) In any event, the queen group grew and they are the featured guests at the annual St Patrick's Day parade in Jackson. When she wrote the book, the queen thing struck a chord with MANY women in the US and there are now chapters of Queens in MANY states!!!!

I sent the book to my best friend to cheer her up, she had her book club read it, the two of us made queen get-ups to surprise the book club and that expanded to MORE women wanting to be queens for various events (including Christmas parties, winter carnivals, etc)

Peg knew about my queenliness and we decided two queens should make an appearance at the Bulger reunion. (Just to spice things up a bit.) As it turned out, it was perfect to do a G-rated version for our nephew's birthday and we crowned him King for a day. (The usual Queenly mien is NOT g-rated as you'll see if you read the book.) The Queen in training, Eileen is a 'wannabee queen' who cannot be a FULL QUEEN until we say so....It's so good to have power! :)

We had a great time together in in your home. Thanks for a GREAT week (and DO read the book!!!!)

September 21, 2001 -- Thank you Kari for all your help with the reservations. You were a joy to talk to and the process was so easy as a result. The weekend was definitely what our group needed. A total of 23 women in different stages of recovery...sharing, caring & fellowship mixed with a little of much needed rest and relaxation. We are certainly blessed today and grateful to be able to share a weekend together in the fast paced world we all choose to live in. What a beautiful view of the lake with enough room for everyone to stretch their legs. I will definitely be back again.
Thank you!  ~ Christine S.

9/8/01 A great week -- 4 couples--used the pool a lot. Played golf several days. Helped the Indians get wealthy at the Casino. Sailed on the "Lady of the Lake" to the far lands. Saw the helicopters fighting the fires with the big buckets. Played Bridge every night. A great house with friendly hosts-made for a great week in apple land--

We had a great time--the view is wonderful, the location is convenient, and the house is greatly appointed.

The boys enjoyed the pool, the yard, the privacy of five bedrooms, and especially the big screen TV.

In future years we would definitely consider returning.

Thanks for the beautiful accommodations.

7/17/01  Hi Kari! I just wanted to write and let you know what a wonderful time we had at Quail Haven. The entire family spent numerous hours in the pool. By the end of the week, my daughter had learned to swim. What an accomplishment and a summer memory to remember. After Quail Haven, we traveled on to Idaho for another family reunion, where we stayed in a small three bedroom condo. What a difference from Quail Haven. Quail Haven is a large, spacious house with many large bedrooms, a larger pool than the condo had and you don't have to share it with anyone else. We didn't even use the pool at the condo because you had to walk a long way to the pool and it was always overcrowded with many other people. Quail Haven has so much to offer!! The large house, the pool, the two T.V.'s (one for the adults and one for the children), the large dining room and table for eating and games, the quiet, cool and relaxing swing, the large yard to play games, the basketball hoop and the beautiful view of Lake Chelan. When I got off the phone with you this morning and told my children we were going back there next summer, they were both so excited!!! Thank you for making our stay so much fun!!! Can't wait until next summer!!!

The Ellis/Scott Family

6/28/01 Kari-
Thank you again for our wonderful stay at Quail Haven. It was everything we hoped it would be and will be a vacation long remembered.

The house easily accommodated my wife and me, our mothers and our eight children ( 3 of them are adults). Each was able to do what they wanted without
infringing on others' space (that is rare in a big family like ours!).

The June weather proved to be cooler than expected but we were still able to enjoy the pool and even get a few sunburns. We are a family that loves to fish
so we were out every morning and evening trying our luck. The fishing, while always enjoyable, was slow until our last day. On that day, seven of us caught
14 (12 inch) trout off the bank at the Old Mill Bay park in one hour! It was the only day we had fished there. Needless to say, we had a great fish feed at
the house that evening.

Our older children rented wave runners and had a great time on Lake Chelan. My boys and I were able to play a round of golf and the whole family enjoyed a
round of miniature golf and bumper boats in Chelan.

Sometimes vacations can be trying, especially when you return from a day's activities to a crowded hotel room. The beauty of the Lake Chelan area and the
tranquility of Quail Haven allowed us to thoroughly enjoy all our activities and still be able to truly relax upon our return to the house.

My family wants to come again.

June 6-8 Senior Class Trip! Sunnyside Christian High School,
Sunnyside, Washington
CLASS OF 2000

June 8, 2000  Kari~
Thanks again for the fine home that you provided my class and I with. I can easily speak for all of them when I say that "WE HAD A BLAST". Your home was beautiful and full of everything we needed! It was a perfect getaway for our class and many memories have been embedded in our minds. Nothing would have suited our needs better!

The view was definitely a beauty!! I am one for views and your home provided me with just that....it was very enjoyable lounging on the deck looking out to a glassy blue Lake Chelan and luscious green fields. The roses were also beautiful! The array of colors were a sight!! Corinne also found what she thought was the perfect rose at your place and I can only agree. :)

Thanks for everything that you did for us, from taking pictures to making sure all was "A" OK to just being a friendly hostess, I thank you! I again will never forget the time I spent there. The nights were fun filled with talking, watching movies and playing games. I don't think I have ever laughed so hard as I did with my friends on this trip. The days were also very enjoyable. The area provides many options. I had the opportunity to go tubbing on Lake Chelan and it was great. Though the water was freezing, I managed and truly enjoyed myself.

I hope that you too enjoyed having us....and we weren't too much trouble for you! I am glad that you decided to let us come though you weren't so sure about it at first. And I am glad I found the place on the net for had I not found the place we wouldn't have had such an AWESOME class trip. Thanks and take care, HAVE FUN IN EUROPE!!! :)

Colleen~

Thank-you very much for the wonderful trip that you allowed us to have. I know that I thoroughly enjoyed it and I am sure the rest of my classmates did also. The house was very nice and worked very well even for the amount of people we had. It was the perfect setting for our senior class trip.

Thanks ~  Michael Van Wingerden

Dear Kari,

Thank you so much for letting us spend our senior class trip at your house. It was absolutely perfect!  The house is beautifully furnished, has a breathtaking view, beautiful landscaping and had plenty of room for all 24 class members, plus the 5 chaperones that accompanied us. I am sure I speak for all of us when I say we have gained many wonderful memories from this trip.

I also want to say that you where a wonderful hostess!  You where easy to talk to and always willing to give us any information we needed.  Thank you, it made our stay even more fun and enjoyable.

Once again, thank you so much for everything, I had a wonderful time. It was a truly special experience.

I was looking on the internet for a place for our family to hold our annual reunion.  We needed a place for 8 adults and 5 children.  In my quest I found Quail Haven.  It fit all of the criteria I had been given.  I called up Kari and made arrangements.

As the time came closer I started to hope and pray that the place I picked would be as good as advertised.

We were all pleased that it was as good as the web site had described if not better.  All of our needs were met.  The swimming pool was an extra and all enjoyed it.  The kids really enjoyed the glider out front.  It was a great place for both adults and kids.  We had a great time and have been telling friends about it.

We really enjoyed it and will be back again.

Thanks again for all of your help Kari.

April 28, 29, 30... Dear Kari,

What a fabulous weekend we had at your beautiful Quail Haven House! Our stay was one of the most relaxing weekends we have spent together in all the years we have been reuniting.

When planning the perfect "get-away" for sixteen women every year, suitable lodging can get tight and sometimes primitive.  What a wonderful surprise to be able to stay in a home this time that accommodated us all with beds and bathrooms comfortably. Everyone commented that Quail Haven House felt so much like "home" and your attention to details made us feel like "family".

Thank you for all the extra touches you provided to help make our stay so pleasant.  From the fresh flowers that greeted us, enough towels for showers every day, hangers in every closet, two ovens, a dining table for a "sit-down" dinner and the group pictures you graciously offered to take of us (with eight different cameras, no less)....you certainly know how to treat your guests, and we'll have pictures to remind us of it all for our reunion album.  We do hope to come back...especially if you can order up some more of that wonderful, therapeutic sunshine!!

With fond memories, thanks again!
